Happy Holidays Internet!
The end of the year is a time of love and joy — a celebration of food, booze, old friends and new beginnings. But you can’t highlight the good without a dash of the bad!
This Friday Five! brings you the Top 5 Christmas Villains. Yes, they are a contemptible collection of baddies… but it wouldn’t be Christmas without them. Hit the jump to see who made the list.
5. Scut Farkus (A Christmas Story)
A legendary bully that torments and chases Ralphie all over town… and a cautionary tale about what happens when you push said Holiday Hero too far. You know he’s a bad guy because he had yellow eyes! SO HELP ME GOD, YELLOW EYES!!
Awesomely Villainous Quote: “Cry, cry for me crybaby! Cry!”
4. Marv and Harry (Home Alone)
First they’ll steal everything you own while you’re on vacation in France… then, for no good reason, they’ll flood your house. Dastardly indeed, Wet Bandits.
Awesomely Villainous Quote: “Santy don’t visit the funeral homes, little buddy.”
3. The Grinch (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)
You know you’re a holiday villain when your name is synonymous with misery and bitterness all year long! What makes The Grinch such a special bad guy, though, is his eventual redemption and acceptance of the Christmas spirit. Seriously… how could anyone stay angry at little Cindy Lou Who?
Awesomely Villainous Quote: “Their mouths will hang open a minute or two, then the Whos down in Whoville will all cry, ‘Boo Hoo.'”
2. Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)
Uh, yeah. Duh. Without a doubt the most recognizable Christmas Villain on this list and possibly Dickens’ most famous character. Exhibiting the classic Dickensian traits of extreme vitriol and miserliness, Scrooge (much like “Grinch”) has become synonymous with misanthropy. There is only one thing left to say…
Awesomely Villainous Quote: “Bah, humbug!”
1.) Hans Gruber (Die Hard)
Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie… The best Christmas movie! And one of the main reasons the original Die Hard is the greatest? Allen Rickman’s deliciously devious portrayal of John McClane’s (MCCLANE!!) nemesis, Hans Gruber. Just go delight in this cinematic treasure. Now. Seriously, stop reading. Go!
Awesomely Villainous Quote: “I am an exceptional thief, Mrs. McClane. And since I’m moving up to kidnapping, you should be more polite.”
